Modern Art Plate Glass Company Success Story
In 2004 Delweld Industries was contacted by Modern Art Plate Glass Company to design and fabricate a main entrance outdoor weather canopy for a renovation project at the East Hills Business Complex in Richland, Pennsylvania. A challenging architects concept, requiring a canopy that was to be angled toward the building, and with no ground supporting structures, was presented. This configuration created several obstacles that would need to be overcome without sacrificing the visual appeal.
The resulting design, and consequent fabrication, was a lustrous aluminum structure that supported and framed a clear Lexan polycarbonate cover. A drainage system necessary to deal with water run off toward the building was incorporated into the canopy and curtain wall structures, and was virtually invisible. Integral stainless steel support struts, that were designed to compliment the lines of the new façade and canopy, completed the scheme by transferring the load to the buildings structural framework.
All facets of the project, including design, laser cutting, welding, forming, etc, were done completely by Delweld Industries Corp.
Two years later, in 2006, Modern Art Plate Glass Company again approached Delweld with a similar requirement for a building renovation project in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Drawings were submitted to the lead architectural firm for approval, with a warning from Modern Art that “this firm never accepts the initial submittal”. There apparently is a first time for everything. The design was accepted as presented, and a stainless steel version was shortly thereafter installed on the front of the Gilda’s Club building.
